In honor of today being "National Have Fun at Work Day" I thought I'd write an article on the positive benefits of laughter.
We've all heard the expression, "Laughter is the best medicine." Research is starting to prove it.
When we laugh, a lot happens in our body. We stretch muscles, breathe faster, burn calories, increase our heart rate, and bring more oxygen to the cells. It's like going for a stroll without actually moving.
Laughter is particularly good at fighting stress. Researchers think that is because people who laugh a lot tend to have a more positive attitude and the support of family and friends. These come in handy when you're really freaking out!
The next time you're feeling stressed, try to find some humor in the situation. If you can't, then take a mental break and read something funny on the internet. Better yet, tune out for a few hours and watch a good comedy. Your body will thank you!!
